I was reading my textbook and something really struck me. Dr. Ralph Winter was describing the diseases in undeveloped societies compared to the US.
They found that the underdeveloped societies had diseases like tuberculosis, malnutrition, pneumonia, parasites, typhoid, cholera, typhus, etc. They found that the US has invented a new set of diseases due to its priority on convenience and making things easy. These included: obesity, arteriosclerosis, heart disease, strokes, lung cancer, venereal disease, cirrhosis of the liver, drug addiction, alcoholism, divorce, battered children, suicide, and murder.
The contrasts are striking. Makes me rethink a lot of things.
